Scene
Act I- The house of Orpheus and Eurydice in the countryside near Thebes
Act II- Mount Olympus at dawn
Act III- Pluto's bedroom in the Underworld
Act IV- The Underworld, shortly after the events in Act III

Synopsis
Orpheus, a demigod, is not grieving the loss of his wife, Eurydice, but rather is relieved she is no longer burdened by his constant music. Eurydice is seduced by Pluto and is enjoying her time in the Underworld. When Public Opinion demands Orpheus retrieve Eurydice, Jupiter, having fallen for her, agrees but with a catch: Orpheus must not look back at Eurydice during their ascent. Jupiter then, ironically, hurls a  lightning bolt causing Orpheus to glance back, and Eurydice vanishes.
